Halloween is one night, but a good pair of themed sneakers can last you the whole season and well beyond. The trick is picking pairs that get the mood right without turning into a costume you’ll never wear again. Brands seem to have figured that out. This year most of the best Halloween releases don’t rely on cartoon pumpkins plastered everywhere. They lean on dark bases, glow-in-the-dark hits, a few hidden details and colour combinations that look just as good in November.
When we look at a Halloween sneaker, we check a few things. The theme should be clear but not overdone, so black, orange, blood red and slime green are the usual suspects. Glow-in-the-dark details are a big plus, because that’s where the fun is once the sun goes down. And it still has to be a good shoe: comfortable enough for a long night of trick-or-treating or a party, and tough enough to handle wet pavements at the end of October. We’ve also added two pairs for kids, because nobody gets more excited about Halloween than they do.
Air Jordan 5 Retro ‘Halloween’

The Air Jordan 5 Retro ‘Halloween’ is the headline release of the season, and it doesn’t need pumpkins or bats to make its point. Black suede covers the whole upper, and Picante Red runs along the famous shark-teeth design on the midsole, broken up by black speckles. The 3M reflective tongue and the lace lock are still there, so the shoe keeps everything that made the AJ5 a classic back in 1990. There’s also a small “XXIII” stitched behind the tongue that you’ll only spot if you look closely.
The real trick comes out at night. The Jumpman on each tongue, the “23” embroidered near the heel and the Nike Air branding on the back all glow green in the dark, and so does the icy translucent outsole. Air cushioning in the heel keeps it comfortable for hours on your feet. It’s available in men’s sizing at around £190, and there are older kids’ sizes at around £120 if you fancy matching pairs.
Vans Youth Old Skool Halloween

The Vans Youth Old Skool Halloween takes the most famous silhouette in the Vans catalogue and wraps it in spider webs. The canvas panels carry a web print in red and white over a black base, framed by black suede on the toe and heel. Thick red laces finish off the look, and the same red shows up on the Vans branding inside. It looks spooky enough for October 31st, but it’s subtle enough for school the rest of the week.
Underneath, it’s a classic Old Skool. You get the padded collar for comfort around the ankle, the lace-up closure, the vulcanised build and Vans’ signature waffle outsole for grip on slippery autumn streets. It’s sized for kids from 8 to 14 years old and costs around £53, which makes it one of the easiest Halloween buys on this list.
Nike LeBron Witness X ‘Halloween’

LeBron James loves Halloween, and over the years his costumes have become almost as famous as his shoes. This year his take on the holiday arrives on the LeBron Witness X, his more affordable signature line. The colourway mixes Dark Smoke Grey and Iron Grey with Campfire Orange, and the star of the show is the heel. Nike has shaped it into a jack-o’-lantern made from plush, moulded material, with a carved pumpkin face looking back at whoever’s walking behind you.
This is still a proper basketball shoe, though. The double-layer mesh upper moves with your foot while staying stable, the Cushlon 3.0 foam midsole gives you responsive cushioning and a TPU piece around the midfoot keeps you steady on quick cuts. It also has a few glow-in-the-dark details to keep things fun after dark. At around £100, it’s the cheapest way to get a Halloween colourway from the Nike Basketball range this year.
Vans Kids Sk8-Mid V Halloween

If the Old Skool plays it cool, the Kids Sk8-Mid V Halloween goes all in. The canvas panels are covered in an olive green print packed with carved pumpkins, ghosts, bubbling cauldrons and spider webs. Black suede on the toe and around the ankle keeps the colours in check, while the white Sidestripe, the lime green line on the midsole and the orange heel tab finish the design. Kids will love it, and it’s easy to spot in a crowd of trick-or-treaters.
The “V” stands for Velcro, and that’s the most practical detail here. Two hook-and-loop straps make it easy for little ones to put the shoes on and take them off without any help, and the mid-top height adds a bit more support around the ankle than a low-top. It’s designed for kids aged 4 to 8 and costs around £50.
Nike Ja 4 ‘Nightmare’

The Ja 4 ‘Nightmare’ isn’t part of Nike’s official Halloween pack, but its name and story fit right in. Nike built this colourway around Ja Morant’s dunks and the moment he takes off, the one defenders dread before they end up on his highlight reel. The upper is dark Obsidian and black, cut through with sharp Voltage Green accents and a few Metallic Silver touches. It looks menacing in a way that works for Halloween and for the rest of the basketball season.
On court, the Ja 4 is built for explosive guards. Cushlon 3.0 foam gives you bounce on take-off and soaks up the impact when you land, and the lightweight foam upper has a textured haptic overlay for extra durability. The JA-frame wraps the midfoot to keep you locked in on hard cuts, and the rubber outsole has a traction pattern inspired by Ja’s logo. Look closely and you’ll find his own words moulded into the sole and printed on the frame. It costs around £120 at Nike UK.
